Working with Herbs in Sync with the New Moon

The new moon invites us into stillness, inward listening, and the fertile unknown. It is the quiet beginning of the lunar cycle—a place of rest, reflection, and intention-setting. This is a time to turn inward, compost what’s ready to be released, and plant seeds—both energetic and practical—for what you wish to grow.

When working with herbs during the new moon, the focus is not so much on doing or achieving, but on cultivating presence. You don’t need a complex ritual or a long list of ingredients. Choose any herb you feel called to—whether it's one you’ve received through the circle, harvested yourself, or simply feel intuitively drawn toward.

Here’s a simple and adaptable New Moon Herbal Ritual you can try and make adjustments as inspiration strikes :)

New Moon Herbal Steeping & Seeding Ritual

  1. Choose Your Herb
Hold your dried herb in your hands. Close your eyes and take a few slow breaths. Ask yourself: What seed am I planting with this moon? What do I need to nourish that growth? Let your herb be a symbolic or energetic ally for what you're calling in.

  2. Prepare a Steeping Infusion or Tea
Pour hot water over the herb—whether it’s a single plant or a blend—and cover it. As it steeps, sit quietly. Imagine your intention being drawn out, just as the water draws out the plant’s qualities. You can journal, meditate, or simply breathe.

  3. Drink with Intention
As you sip your infusion, speak or silently affirm what you’re inviting in. This can be a word, a feeling, a commitment, or even just an openness to receive.

  4. Offer & Anchor
Pour the last bit of your infusion onto the earth, your altar, or into a houseplant as an offering. You might also write your intention on a small piece of paper and place it somewhere visible or tuck it under your infusion jar to “steep” with you through the cycle.

The magic of this ritual is its simplicity. Let the herb be a mirror, a companion, a co-dreamer. Over the days following the new moon, notice how your energy shifts. Keep returning to your intention and the plant you chose, like checking in with a seed you’ve planted.

Let’s Open the Circle

  1. What intentions are you planting this moon cycle?

  2. How did your herb speak to you or reflect your inner state during this ritual?

  3. What helps you stay connected to your intentions as the cycle unfolds?

Share your reflections, rituals, and photos—we’d love to witness your new moon magic.
