Saturn & Eris: Building What Endures

Only four days after Eris stations retrograde in Aries, Saturn also pauses and begins its own retrograde journey through the same sign.

To me, these two movements feel deeply connected. While Eris reveals where something has fallen out of alignment, Saturn asks what we are willing to build in its place.

Together, they describe a powerful chapter within what I have come to think of as The Great Reorganization—a longer cycle of personal and collective transformation that asks us not only to see more clearly, but to live with greater integrity.

Saturn stations retrograde on July 26, 2026, beginning a 137-day period of reflection, restructuring, and maturation. He will turn direct again on December 10, 2026. During this retrograde, Saturn moves backward from approximately 14° to 7° Aries. Significantly, he remains entirely within Aries and does not return to Pisces.

This is not a return to the dream, instead it is an invitation to strengthen the beginning.

Saturn as the Builder

Saturn takes approximately 29.5 years to complete one orbit around the Sun and spends roughly two and a half years in each zodiac sign. Its current journey through Aries began when he re-entered the sign in February 2026 and will continue until April 2028.

Saturn is often described as the taskmaster of astrology—the planet of limits, delays, responsibility, and consequences. Over time, however, I have come to understand Saturn as one of astrology’s most compassionate teachers. Saturn does not limit us simply to make life difficult. It limits us so that we learn how to build within reality.

Satrun asks whether our relationships, businesses, commitments, habits, beliefs, and ways of living can actually sustain themselves over time. As is the planet of karma, but I do not think of karma primarily as reward or punishment.

I think of it as cause and effect unfolding through time. Every repeated choice becomes part of the architecture of our lives. Saturn asks us to become conscious builders.

Saturn in Aries

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. It represents beginnings, courage, identity, instinct, and the impulse to move forward. Saturn in Aries asks us to mature that impulse.

Can courage become consistent?

Can inspiration become practice?

Can independence become responsibility?

Can vision become something tangible?

Can we become responsible for the person we are becoming?

Saturn does not extinguish the fire of Aries. Instead it provides structure, teaching us how to tend the flame so that it does not burn brightly for one moment and disappear, but becomes a steady source of warmth, purpose, and direction.

Individually, Saturn in Aries may ask us to examine how we initiate, lead, assert ourselves, and use our energy. Collectively, it asks larger questions. What kind of future are we building? Can innovation mature into responsibility? Can individuality mature into stewardship? Can courage become wisdom?

These are not questions with immediate answers. They are questions that unfold through choices made repeatedly over time.

Saturn Retrograde: Strengthening the Foundation

Retrogrades invite us to review, reconsider, and revisit. Saturn retrograde is not necessarily asking us to abandon what we have begun. It may instead ask us to inspect the foundation.

Where have we moved too quickly?

What requires reinforcement?

Which commitments deserve greater structure?

What is no longer sustainable?

Because Saturn remains entirely within Aries during this retrograde, the emphasis stays on the new chapter already underway. There is no return to Pisces. No retreat into uncertainty, dissolution, or possibility.

The work is here & the beginning has already begun. Now it must become stronger.

Eris Reveals, Saturn Reorganizes

Eris stationed retrograde in Aries only four days before Saturn.

In my previous podcast, I explored Eris not simply as the Goddess of Discord, but as the revealer of places where ego has become overleveraged or where imbalance has quietly gone unnoticed. Eris does not necessarily create the fracture. She makes it visible. Saturn then asks us what we will do with that awareness.

To me, this is what makes their nearly simultaneous retrograde stations so meaningful. Awareness alone is not enough. Once something has been revealed, the work of repair begins.

The Subtle Work of the Outer Planets

Many astrologers like to say that the outer planets always win. I do not experience that statement as fatalistic. Instead, I understand it as a reminder that these slow-moving celestial bodies work through subtle energy. Their influence may not always be obvious in daily life. Yet over years and decades, they quietly reshape consciousness, culture, and the structures through which we understand ourselves.

The outer planets rarely shout, they whisper for a very long time. Eventually, we recognize that the landscape has changed.

Saturn works in a similar way. A foundation becomes strong through repeated care. Things such as trust, character, and a meaningful body of work all develop slowly. What endures is rarely built in haste.

Learning from the Orchard

As a farmer and herbalist, I often understand Saturn through the orchard. Every winter, fruit trees must be pruned. Branches are removed as growth is redirected. To someone unfamiliar with tending trees, pruning may appear destructive. Yet the pruning is not a punishment, it is an act of care. The gardener removes what is damaged, crossing, or no longer serving the health of the tree so that energy can move toward what is ready to flourish.

Saturn often works in this way. It does not necessarily make life smaller, instead it makes it more structurally sound. Sometimes what feels like restriction is actually preparation. Sometimes what feels like delay is ultimately strengthening. Sometimes what feels like loss is energy being redirected toward what can truly endure.

Building What Endures

Perhaps that is how the future is always built. Not all at once. But patiently, deliberately, and with enough integrity to endure.
